Map your region on Nokia Maps: Nokia Map Creator has been introduced officially

It’s actually simple to tell what Nokia Map Creator is like. Have you ever dealt with Google Map Maker? or have you ever been on Open Street Maps? Well we, a few months back, have exclusively reported about the map making or editing possibility over Nokia Maps (Ovi Maps at that time) which later got rolled back due to unknown reason. But now we can understand as it wasn’t officially rolled out for public to create or edit maps so later it was taken back.

Anyway the good news is that now the service has been restored with a completely new user interface and in fact has been introduced officially with a good name of “Nokia Map Creator”. You again can start creating your local maps over Nokia Maps, just like on Google Map Maker or Open Street Maps. And the bad news is that it’s not yet open for editing in the Pakistan region. In the start it’s just been open for a few countries including Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tanzania, Angola, Burundi, Sri Lanka, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Antigua and Barbuda, and Grenada.

Our initial focus with Map Creator is to get more information on previously unmapped countries including: UzbekistanKyrgyzstanTanzania, Angola, BurundiSri LankaEl SalvadorDominican RepublicJamaicaAntigua and Barbuda, and Grenada. But the list of countries will continue growing over the coming months. In those parts of the world, your work will complement and help speed up the continuous work of our dedicated Nokia Maps team.

There are not much items that you can use to create maps on Nokia Maps right now but you can draw roads, streets or footpaths for the time being. Later the addition of handling point of interests (POIs) will be added to the map creator which will let you add items like parks, forests, lakes and rivers.

We’ve just launched Nokia Map Creator, a fun tool on maps.nokia.com that literally lets YOU map out your local neighbourhood! You can also use Map Creator to make small edits and additions to existing maps. The tool is super simple to use. The best thing about it is that your work will be visible to all maps.nokia.com users—immediately! Your Map Creator content will also be shared via regular map-data updates for Nokia Maps on mobile and web, after NAVTEQ validation checks.

So if you are local to any of the countries listed above, you will probably want to map your region or area with your own knowledge. Just go to Nokia Map Creator and start mapping. As mentioned in the quote that your additions or modifications via Map Creator will go live to the end users at http://maps.nokia.com.
