Update: Skype for Symbian updated version 2.4.5: Belle support still not Fixed

Update (Feb 2, 2012): A new version of Skype is available that works with Nokia Belle. Click here to read more

Skype has been available for S60 since years and previously Skype was updated to work with Symbian^3 devices with some improvements and later it got a few updates. Skype is currently working on Symbian Anna and earlier versions. But it didn’t work on Symbian Belle. There is supposed to be a bug that if run Skype on Symbian Belle, it runs, hangs and then crashes on start-up.

Today Skype on Symbian has received another update version 2.4.5 via Nokia Store. Previous Skype version was 2.0.5 which is still available at Nokia Store and in fact both versions are separately available under the publisher Skype. (None of them will be available if you choose Symbian Belle on device selection window. It tells that Skype is not currently compatible with Symbian Belle)

Following screens were taken from a Nokia N8 running Symbian Belle.

But http://m.skype.com still won’t recognize Symbian Anna or Symbian Belle software based devices.

If you have Symbian devices running Symbian Anna or earlier, you can update to Skype version 2.4.5 via Nokia Store App in your device.

Note: Unfortunately this update also won’t work on Symbian Belle devices and will perform just like it did before on Symbian Belle. Runs, Hangs, Crashes.
