Lumia 900: A combination of power and design – The Turn Back

Lumia 900 – It it what to be considered for Nokia’s come back? Well it seems to be!

Well everyone in tech news now knows about the official announcement of one of the most anticipated Windows Phone powered smartphone from Nokia that, having one glorious design of Nokia N9 and Lumia 800, has been shouted around with different names and code names including “Ace” and more recently it was “Eloko”. But “Lumia 900” was the mostly used name for this device in almost every rumor we have seen on the blogosphere. And now when it has been officially announced at CES by Nokia along with Microsoft and the carrier AT&T which will be responsible to offer Nokia Lumia 900 in United States, the question will still remain intact – “Will Lumia 900 make Nokia get their position back into US market?”

Actually the question above is not only valid within US but it also is valid to ask globally. Specially Android has effect Nokia’s sale around the world and not only in US. While we have seen Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 making progress and increasing Nokia’s sale globally. Also many analysts have shown their positive hopes about Nokia’s Windows Phone based smartphones will make it through. The customers in United States were also seen happy for the launch of these smartphones when these were announced last year. But it wasn’t that big offer for them in US with Lumia 710 as they were also expecting Lumia 800 in it’s initial days. But that went cool down when the news and rumors started about a bigger version of Lumia 800 is coming to US with other great features which Lumia 800 lacked. I believe this is the day US was waiting for. Lumia 900 is what was heading towards US – “This will be available only in United States, not sure about future plans”

First thing first, the design of Lumia 900 is just like Lumia 800, a derivation from Nokia N9. the first big difference in Lumia 900 is that it doesn’t have curved glass which actually makes it slimmer than Lumia 800 and Nokia N9 but seriously I liked the curved glass on N9 as it was supposed to do its job with swipe interface. There was really no need of curved glass in Lumia 800 for its usability. But with no doubt it added the beauty in its design which lacks in Lumia 900. Well it adds in the slimmer profile of Lumia 900.

Lumia 900 will be available in Cyan and Black colors. has been powered with same 1.4 GHz clock speed of processor as Lumia 800 but features a newer edition of Qualcomm processor“APQ8055 Snapdragon S2”, with 3D Graphics HW Accelerator. 512 MB RAM to support the execution of the applications while 14.5 GB is available for users on board of total 16 GB of Mass Storage. No Micro SD Card support but being a Windows Phone device it will be facilitated with 25GB of SkyDrive cloud storage.

Poly-carbonate is same for material that is used to make Lumia 900 as it was in Lumia 800 and Nokia N9. With 11.5 mm, Lumia 900 is 0.6 mm slimmer than Lumia 800. But with bigger and attractive screen size of 4.3″ the physical size of the device increases. 1.3 Megapixel front-facing camera is also an addition to the personality of the device which was not present in Lumia 800. While 8 Megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics on the back is just same in functioning as it’s with Lumia 800, with a Dual-LED flash(Front-facing camera with 1.3 MP can capture photos of 640 x 480 pixels and can record videos at 15 fps)

Display Resolution of Lumia 900 is 800 pixels by 480 pixels with 24 bits of color depth. In Lumia 800 it’s only 16 bits. The famous Clear Black Display (CBD) adds up with AMOLED and Corning’s Gorilla Glass.

Specifically 4G LTE equipped Lumia 900 works with WCDMA, EDGE Class B, GPRS Class B, HSPA+ Cat14 21 Mbps, HSUPA Cat6 5.76 Mbps, WLAN IEEE 802.11 b/g/n, Dual Transfer Mode (MSC 32), LTE Cat 3 (50 Mbps Downlink, 25 Mbps Uplink). Diversity antenna array is also added to maximize RF performance. It’s operational globally in frequencies of GSM 1800, GSM 1900, GSM 850, GSM 900, WCDMA Band II (1900), WCDMA Band V (850), WCDMA Band VIII (900).

Windows Phone based Lumia 900 will come built-in with Bing Maps, AT&T Navigator, AT&T Radio and Tango Video Calls. Nokia Maps and Nokia Drive will be available as a free download.

Battery BP-6EW with capacity of 1830mAh, has an  impressive life with 7 hours of 3G Talk time and 3G standby time of 300 hours , while music can be played for 60 hours and videos can be watched for 6.5 hours.

Nokia has done pretty good job bringing the design of Nokia N9 on wards with these Windows Phone devices as well as it’s been equipped with competitive hardware. We really can’t wait to get our hands on it. We hope it will come out of US soon and will be available to other markets globally including Pakistan.
