Nokia’s “Play To” application deals with DLNA capable devices such as TV Sets, Blu-ray players or in fact computers running Windows 7 OS, to  wirelessly broadcast media content from your smartphone. Finnish company has released various revisions of “Play To” app for Symbian devices. While new line-up of Windows Phones were lacking to have such a sharing app. Nokia Beta Labs has now released “Play To” app for their Lumia smartphones.

Stated that Media server feature, which is currently not present, will be added in future. — see limitations after the break —

With Play To you can share your photos and videos from your Nokia Lumia phone to your DLNA-capable devices over your WLAN network.  This could be that new big screen TV you have or maybe just your Windows7 laptop and/or desktop.  Play To makes sharing easy.

A few known limitations currently the “Play To” app is facing as follows.

  • There are known interoperability issues with Sony Bravia TV that prevent Video being shared correctly.
  • High Resolution video may not share correctly.
  • The application does not support Media Server functionality and cannot be detected by devices such as Microsoft Xbox360 and/or Sony Playstation3.
This functionality is being planned for a future release..
