Smartphones turning cameras is not the game only now. Cameras are now about to turn smart. Well being world’s most famous smartphone platform, Android is probably the only move so far for a “new” company to adopt for their smart devices. After Polaroid SC1630, now Nikon is rumoured to announce its first Android based smart digital camera probably named Coolpix S800 or S800c.

Nikon Rumors reported today with an entry taken from an Indonesian Communication Agency‘s website revealing the information about an unannounced Nikon Coolpix S800c. Nikon Rumors has also listed some expected specifications of the camera that include 25-250mm lens, 3.5″ OLED screen, Built-in GPS and WiFi. Also mentioning the possible date of announcement as August 22, 2012 which is not too far from now.

The thing we doubt is that the guys at Nikon Rumors are expecting too much from Android that Nikon would manufacture a DSLR like cameras with the said smart platform. Although Android has been supporting gigantic hardware and chips, but it should be cleared, the platform is not optimised enough for heavy image processing. There is long way ahead for Android to be that much optimised for DSLRs like photo/video processing. But as for expectations, it’s not bad. Future always come sooner or later. So we’ll see what photography equipment manufactures bring with Android or some other alternate solutions in future.
