Polaroid, mostly known as optics and camera company, has come up with announcement of its camera smartphone during the CES 2015. The “Polaroid Seflie” is the name for that smartphone that features 5.5″ IPS display with 720p resolution. It’s packed with the Octa-core CPU, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage with no microSD card. Well it also runs Android 5.0 Lollipop.
The thing is that the design of “Polaroid Selfie” seems to be just OPPO N1’s rip-off and it doesn’t leave the Chinese manufacturer OPPO happy with it as the company has already released their statement about the matter.
OPPO has released a statement regarding the matter.
It was recently reported that the Polaroid Selfie smartphone released at the CES 2015 has a remarkably similar design to the patented rotating camera phone OPPO N1. However, OPPO has not licensed the design of the rotating camera to any third parties, nor has us done that in any OEM way. We will continue to keep track of the event and reserves the right to take further legal action.

OPPO does not stop here with the rotating camera on N1. An upgraded model, the N3, was launched in late 2014 featuring a motorised rotating ‘selfie’ camera, which could rotate for 206 degrees and makes new shooting modes like auto panaroma possible. Perfect for hands free selfies!
OPPO N1 was not the first mobile phone with rotating camera
As we are talking here about design concepts then there is a need to mention that Oppo is not the first to bring rotating camera design into a mobile.
Samsung i700 was the first Windows Pocket PC with rotating camera in 2004, A rotating camera design was also featured in Nokia 5700 later in 2007 as well as LG CU500V also featured a rotating camera in 2007. Indeed, the designs were not as same as of Oppo N1.
“Polaroid Selfie” is neither Polaroid’s own
The recent hype was about Oppo and Polaroid here. Did you know that there was also an iNew V8 already selling in China. It’s being supposed that Polaroid has just rebranded the iNew V8 as their Polaroid Selfie smartphone by contacting iNew mobile for labeling replacement.
This doesn’t resolve the issue recently occurred between Oppo and Polaroid in anyway. Oppo has already released a statement about their concerns. It’s noticeable that a clone named iNew V8 has already been marketed and sold in China where Oppo has not been seen to get into some action against the firm. We’ll wait to see what they come up with against Polaroid in US.
