iPhone 6s and 6s Plus announced, 12MP Camera and 3D Touch Display

“The only thing that’s changed is everything” – Well, visually there is no change in size & design. A new color is available though.

iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus - Color Variants

Apple has introduced the new versions of their iPhone – both the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Both the flagship smartphones come in an identical design as of their predecessors, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. However a bundle of improvements and new features have been added.

3D Touch – as Apple calls it, is the technology introduced in the new iPhone’s screen to detect how much pressure you are making with your touch. Probably like the force touch in recently launched Huawei Mate S smartphone, but Apple is bringing it on with the whole lot of usable applications with it including new features introduced in the upcoming iOS 9.

With this 3D Touch – which I don’t like it being called as 3D, Sorry fans!, the new features will allow users to interact on-screen with pulling up menus (contextual-like), activating and using shortcuts and more like that “peek and pop”. For more extent, you can touch with light and hard pressure on an item on the screen to take a glimpse of what’s inside. Interestingly, this feature is also applicable to the app icons on the screen where you can use the 3D touch to get main action elements of an app right before opening the it.

Peek and Pop let you preview all kinds of content and even act on it — without having to actually open it. For example, with a light press you can Peek at each email in your inbox. Then when you want to open one, press a little deeper to Pop into it.

Finally Apple adds more pixels to their iPhone cameras

Next big thing is the main camera which is now 12 megapixels sensor on both the new devices jumping from 8 megapixels. That also with 4K video recording capability for the first time in an iPhone. Just like before, the Optical Image Stabilizer is only present in the iPhone 6s Plus. The FaceTime Camera (front-facing) is now 5 megapixels unlike 1.2MP previously.

The new devices indeed come with the new A9 chipsets with embedded motion co-processor and 2nd generation Touch ID (fingerprint sensor). Like always from Apple, officially there are no technical details about the processor but it’s a new 64-bit processor to perform at 70% faster at processing while 90% faster on GPU.

As mentioned above, the design and the display  size of the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus matches to their predecessors being 4.7″ and 5.5″ displays respectively. In spite of that, the latest “s” versions of iPhone have the Taptic Engine for touch feedback on the display. Dimension wise there is only a bit of millimeters difference from all axis. The new iPhone versions are 0.1 to 0.2 mm larger in physical size – which I don’t think we can point with our eyes. Well, the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are indeed heavier than the older counter parts with the increased weight by 14 grams and 20 grams respectively.

Stronger iPhone Ever with a new
Rose Gold color to choose from.

In addition you have a Rose Gold, the 4th option in colors to choose from including Gold, Silver and Space Grey.  As claimed, Apple has used the strongest alloy – 7000 series aluminium, to build the new latest iPhone devices as well as the strongest glass ever on the screens, called Ion-x, already used on Apple Watch instead of sapphire glass. Both the 6s and the 6s Plus come in same as previous resolutions 1334 x 750 pixels (326 ppi) and 1920 x 1080 pixels (401 ppi) respectively.
