After staying in leaks for long, Microsoft has officially announced the flagship Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. The last Lumia flagship device we’d seen was from Nokia, the Lumia 930. It’s been over a year now when the smartphone was unveiled.

These two are the first flagship devices from Microsoft after the acquisition. Microsoft actually skipped the 940 addition in Lumia family and jumped from Nokia’s Lumia 930 to Microsoft’s Lumia 950 along with an XL variant. Microsoft has recommended the retail price of $549 for Lumia 950 and for $649 for Lumia 950 XL. That’s approximately Rs. 57,000/- and Rs. 68,000/- respectively in Pakistan. Both the Lumia devices will go on sale starting next month.

Running on Windows 10 Mobile, Microsoft Lumia 950 features a 5.2 inch AMOLED display with WQHD resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels – that’s around 565 PPI pixel density. It comes with Gorilla Glass 3 and ClearBlack display. Packed with Hexa-core 1.8 GHz Snapdragon 808 processor and 3 GB of RAM, Lumia 950 stacks among the most powerful Windows phones right now.

Lumia 950 XL also runs on Windows 10 Mobile but as suggested with the name ‘XL’ it serves on a larger display of 5.7 inches with same 1440p WQHD resolution. That makes up the pixel density of rather lower as 515 PPI. If you remember, it’s a step down from the 6 inch Lumia 1520. Lumia 950 XL is packed with an Octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor with the clocks peed of 1.5GHz and 2GHz on two Quad-core units. XL variant also comes with 3 GB of RAM

With 32 GB of internal storage, both the phones Lumia 950 support expandable memory up to 200 GB via microSD card. 20 megapixel camera is also same on both the devices with PureView imaging and Zeiss optics. The sensor format is 1/2.4″ with pixel size of 1.12 µm.

Unlike many Nokia camera phones, Microsoft doesn’t seem to use Xenon flash units due to the slimmer profiles of the phones. However the these two devices come with “Trippe LED RGB flash” – that might give more and accurate light but not as clear and dynamic as Xenon flash would. Both the phones have dedicated shutter buttons as well as both of them can record 4K (2160p) video with primary camera.

On the front there are 5 MP camera for video calling and selfies. It can also record up to 1080p selfie video.

Both the phones have NFC and fast charging capability over USB Type-C connectivity. With the a wide range of 3G and 4G/LTE frequency bands, Lumia 950 and 950 XL have their dual SIM variants depending on the markets.
