Huawei is working on its own Mobile OS and may ditch Android

EMUI is also being reworked by an ex-Apple designer. May have an App Drawer

According to the reports, the Chinese giant phone maker, Huawei is working on its own mobile OS in case if they ever wanted to go off Google’s Android in future.

While Huawei has hired a former Apple designer who will work on Huawei’s EMUI to make it more like Android phones with company’s own flair instead of the likeness of Apple’s iOS software, the company has also secret development of its own complete mobile OS to run their smartphones in future.

Sources reveal to The Information that a dedicated team at Huawei is working on the mobile OS in Scandinavia. The team includes engineers which were ex-Nokia employees and it’s reported that the company’s own mobile operating system is not far along.

Huawei isn’t the only phone maker where they are working on alternatives to Google’s Android OS to run their devices. Samsung also has its own Linux-based Tizen OS for their devices, although the company has not shifted completely to their own OS and still making flagship devices with the most popular Android OS today.

In addition to the EMUI changes, it’s being reported that we may see an app drawer which is currently missing from the company’s Android UI. Fresh and redesigned icons will also be added as well as a new color palette.

According to The Verge, Brody told The Information that one day Huawei could become “the world’s No. 1, the most advanced and favorite ‘lifestyle-centric’ ecosystem, and without having to copy Apple at all, ever!”

The secret OS project of Huawei is still told to be in early stages which is being developed by a team including former Nokia engineers. There is no key information as what this secret OS is all about and how it’s being built.
