Huawei Mate 9

The consumer and pro camera experts at DxOMark have tested the latest beast from Huawei, the Mate 9 for its camera capabilities. The report tells that the Mate 9 could only rank up to number 5 in the top smartphone cameras rated in their labs.

Mate 9 has been launched in Pakistan and is already available to buy for PKR. 70,000/- we have also done a short review of the smartphone where we have also covered its dual-camera that features with the Leica optics on top of a 20 megapixel monochrome image sensor and a 12 megapixel RGB/color sensor that did really good in our tests.

DxOMark has rated the Mate 9 with score of 85 on their scale occupying the rank 5 jointly with the LG V20. It’s worth telling here that, as of today, there are total of 12 smartphones cameras at top 4 ranks above Mate 9 in DxOMark’s list.

While the the smartphone couldn’t get in the top numbers of the experts’ chart, it indeed is the top smartphone from Huawei in the list. Previously Huawei P9 was rated with score of 80 and the P8 was at 74.

However the report indicates about the impressive results Mate 9 produces in outdoor shots that preserves good detail, acquires accurate white balance with good exposure. The testers were not happy with the color inconsistency in cloudy situations as well as the flash introduces color casts. The test shots provided were also having ghosting artifacts.

The testers appreciate the second sensor – the monocrhome one for its contribution in low-light situations where the camera could produce interestingly low noise. It is also helpful in shooting indoors without the use of flash.

In video recording, the Mate 9 also produced fine detail and exposure in good light. However the footage was not rated as strong for its stabilization. When shooting outdoors, the colors and white balance was accurate but indoors and in low-light, motion artifacts were introduced along with increased noise and loss of contrast.
