WhatsApp Support Extended for Nokia S40, Symbian and BlackBerry

Enjoy WhatsApp on your Nokia or BlackBerry until June 30, 2017

WhatsApp has announced that service will keep running for the Nokia and BlackBerry devices, which was just about to end by the end of this year, for six more months.

Good news for users still using Nokia Symbian or Series 40 devices or the BlackBerry devices which were bound to expire for the most popular messaging service WhatsApp as the makers have announced the extension of just over six more months before the service will shutdown on the said devices.

Nokia and BlackBerry devices will now keep running on the WhatsApp until June 30th, 2017. However, instead of publishing a new story, they preferred to update the old post which initially announced about the abandoning of the support.

UPDATE: WhatsApp is extending support for BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Nokia S40 and Nokia Symbian S60 until June 30, 2017.

WhatsApp previously, in favor to focus their effort on developing for the platform which were used by majority, planned to end support for its messenger on the following platforms.

  • BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10
  • Nokia S40
  • Nokia Symbian S60
  • Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
  • Windows Phone 7
  • iPhone 3GS/iOS 6

Leaving older versions of Android and iPhone is understandable as those device will hard to find these days. However, Nokia’s devices are still under usage and so would be BlackBerry devices. In fact I have someone very close who kept asking me if there is any way her Nokia E72 could keep running the WhatsApp? And my answer was always “Just stop using it now if you want to keep align with your friends and family” even though E72 has been one of my favorite devices.

Well, WhatsApp just has gone so kind for those users to give them six more months to enjoy their favorite messaging service but you still have a dead line. So plan something now.
