Nokia reportedly might be working on its own artificially intelligent assistant (or more commonly known as AI Assistant), if an application for a trademark registration in the EU is to believe.

According to report coming through, Nokia has submitted a request for protection of a trademark name “VIKI” which, as described in the application detail, could be a name for software based intelligent system to create and monitor mobile and web digital assistants that could work with knowledge and data from chat and voice based interfaces.

“Software for the creation and monitoring of mobile and web digital asssistants working with knowledge and combining all data sources into a single chat and voice based interface. ” — stated as services with the trademark name in the application.

“VIKI” (or “Viki”) could probably be the new and next name in the lot of various digital AI Assistants which majorly include Apple’s Siri, Microsoft’s Cortana, Google’s own Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa. Samsung has also been reported to bring its own AI Assistant with Galaxy S8.

Nokia, after shifting its phone business to Microsoft, got busy with its network and communication technologies but the importance of its brand name in mobile market kept it always alive in the smartphone news and rumors with its future with Android platform. This took pace after HMD got license for the Nokia brand name and finally launched first Nokia Android called – Nokia 6.

HMD has already disclosed its plans of releasing range of Android powered smartphones under the Nokia branding this year. So you could expect anything that could have Nokia-Android relation with proprietary work of the OEM.
