LG G6 Official with Dual-Camera and One of its Kind 18:9 FullVision Display

Abandoning the modular form of LG G5, LG announced its flagship smartphone LG G6 at Mobile World Congress with more real things. The new LG G6 packs in a metal build of unibody form factor. It’s now water and dust resistant, means the battery is not user removable.

LG G6 adapts a non-standard display size that it calls as FullVision. It features a screen with 18:9 aspect ratio which is a little taller than standard 16:9 wide screen. It’s a 5.7-inch display with QHD+ resolution with bright sunlight readability. While the screen is a bit taller than usual, LG tried well to keep it compact with much lower space above and below the screen. Bezels are also very thin to support the compactness of this large device.

With this new display size, LG believes to provide improved and better user experience specially with split-screen applications. LG is optimizing many apps to work with this new format of screen such as the new camera UI allows to capture a new photo in half of the screen while providing the previews of previous shots in a square format in other half of the screen. LG has to say that streaming video providers are now offering content in the new 18:9 aspect ratio. In addition, LG G6 is the first smartphone to feature Dolby Vision high dynamic video technology.

Running Android 7.0 Nougat, LG G6 is powered by last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset. It offers 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of internal storage based on regional availability. MicroSD card slot is provided and up to 2TB memory card is supported.

Provided its water and dust resistance, LG G6’s battery is packed within and not removable and mentioned above but it’s a bit large battery with 3300mAh capacity. The board supports fast charging with Quick Charge 3.0.

LG G6 Profile

Now come to the camera department which seems to be interesting in the LG’s outfit of dual-camera configuration. Both the cameras have 13 megapixel image sensors. One of them has f/1.8 aperture lens with 71-degree angle of view while the other lens has super wide angle of view with 125-degrees. However the wider lens is much slower with f/2.4 aperture. Only the former wide angle lens offers optical image stabilization (OIS).

LG G6 supports 4K video recording as well as the stereo audio recording. With LG’s native camera app, switching from one lens to the other is quite easy with a tap of a button. Transition between switching is even smooth and improved. The phone has 5 megapixel front-facing camera.
