New Snapdragon 660 & 630 Mobile Platforms – Faster Connectivity & Better Camera

Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 & 630

Qualcomm has just announced its new mobile platforms for mid-range devices and they actually could deliver performances like in high-end. New Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 630 Mobile Platforms (or more System-on-Chips as you have known previously) carries high performance proprietary Kryo and ARM’s Cortex-A53 cores.

The new Snapdragon 660 and 630 are supposed to provide faster connectivity and better performance on mid-range and upper mid-range smartphones. For instance, low-cost devices could get enhanced LTE connectivity, improved camera and imaging, machine learning features, and faster charging.

Successors to last year’s Snapdragon 652/653 and 625/626, the new 660 and 630 both feature Spandragon X12 LTE modem. It’s worth mentioning that it’s the same modem as equipped in 2015’s high-end Snapdragon 820. Both octa-core Snapdragon 660 and 630 were built on 14nm process. SD 660 has eight Kryo 260 CPU cores while the SD 630 has eight Cortex-A53 cores, respectively with Adreno 512 and Adreno 508 GPUs. Both mobile platforms support up to 8GB of RAM.

For better camera and imaging, both the platforms have Dual 14-bit Spectra 160 ISP to support up to 24 megapixel image sensors. The duo of mobile platforms supports Quick Charge 4 for faster charging while both the platforms have Bluetooth 5 and 2×2 MIMO WiFi support.
