Xiaomi to ship phones with Samsung’s AMOLED displays next year

According to recent report, the Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has signed an agreement with Samsung Display to ship OLED display panels for its upcoming high-end flagships planned for next year.

Xiaomi has already used AMOLED display panel on its Mi Note 2 smartphone last year that only featured full HD 1080p resolution but the displays in question will feature higher resolutions such as QHD. Next the displays will be flexible to produce 3D curved screen panels.

The report suggests that Samsung will supply a 6.01-inch rigid OLED display panels for Xiaomi – 1 million units in December 2017 with another 2.2 million units following next month.

The development follows the deal that the Chinese smartphone maker allegedly had with LG, in which Xiaomi had plans of sourcing 5.49-inch flexible OLED display panels from LG. The deal went off due to LG’s new manufacturing plant – called E5, delayed to start operations.

Report further discloses that LG’s E5 plant is expected to start operations in August, three months later than planned.

On the other hand Samsung is already shipping AMOLED display panels for iPhone 8. After what Apple is reportedly having plans of producing only OLED iPhone devices in 2018 and on wards.
