Huawei Mate 10 – Everything about the beast, could stun iPhone

Huawei Mate 10 - Render

Huawei’s device launch cycle revolves throughout the year. Three flagship models in P-series, Honor brand and the phablet Mate-series are announced early, mid, and later in the year. Take this year for example, Huawei P10 launched in February, then Honor 9 launched globally in June, the remaining in the line is Mate 10 which is due to be launched later this year.

Reports have already suggested that the Mate 10 will be officially launched in Munich, Germany on October 16, 2017. It was also reported that the Mate 10 will accompany a Mate 10 Lite variant that will debut this year.

Better than an iPhone?

First thing that every Huawei fan would want to know is that Mate 10 will be more powerful than the new iPhone. “much longer battery life with a full-screen display, quicker changing (we think this should read ‘charging’) speed, better photographing capability and many other features that will help us compete with Apple.” – Richard Yu, Huawei CEO told Bloomberg.

Here’s how Huawei Mate 10 may look like

Mate 10’s Horsepower

According to early reports, Mate 10 will have a 6-inch display of 18:9 (2:1) aspect ratio and 2K resolution of 2160×1080 pixels. This screen of course will be taller than the predecessor Mate 9 which has a standard wide screen at 16:9 aspect ratio. The source further confirmed the already reported Kirin 970 system-on-chip to boast the Mate 10 phablet with G71MP12 GPU.

Other reports have suggested that that Mate 10 will be sporting 6GB of RAM along with at least 64GB internal storage. Not to mention the Android 7 Nougat to run the powerhouse.

EntireView Display

The full-screen display is now known as EntireView Display after a trademark listing was leaked recently. The 6-inch screen is a bezel-less display and is built by Japan Display Inc (aka JDI). Yu, mentioned in his interview that Mate 10 is going to have long lasting and fast charging battery too.

Dual-Camera

The dual-camera is allegedly equipped with 3D sensing technology and will extensively help capturing augmented reality content. In addition to an iris scanner, the phablet will sport 3D facial recognition. In the interview, Yu has officially submitted that Mate 10 will have an improved camera with the Leica optics.

It’s expected that Huawei may borrow the Huawei P10’s camera, improve it further and use in the Mate 10. Similarly, considering the progress of Huawei by introducing new chipset/CPU in Mate smartphone, then bring it on to next P-series smartphone. It’s also believed that Mate 10’s Kirin 970 chipset will be sported on next year’s Huawei P10.

Some weibo threat also hinted that Mate 10 could sport dual-camera on the front as well but it’s not widely reported nor there’s any other news to support the information.

Mate 10 Release Date and Price

The same report which shared the launch date, also suggested that Mate 10 could cost PLN 4000 which makes it around ~$1100. Mate 10 Lite, on the other hand, is supposed to cost half of the standard model – PLN 2000 or ~$550. These prices do not look good to me, expect them to be more realistic nearing the launch date.

So making our own guess here would be easy though. Huawei Mate 9 was launched last year at €699. With more improvements and new components, we can add some more amount to it but also considering previous rounds of Huawei, expect them to put pretty similar price tag for Mate 10 this year as well.

Though the leaks and reports have suggested the exact October 16 to be the date for Mate 10 launch, it’s not yet official. So we can keep the time span from October to November, considering previous release dates of Mate smartphones.
