HMD to launch flagship Nokia 8 today – Expect Nokia 2 and 3310 3G Unlikely

HMD Global, the new licensee of the “Nokia” brand for next ten years, is all set to launch the first flagship Android smartphone under the popular Finnish brand today. HMD Global is hosting an event in London where the company is expected to reveal its first flagship phone

Rumors have it that Nokia (or the new home of the brand – HMD) will be launching two more devices today in addition to flagship Nokia 8 – the ultra low-end Nokia 2 and very unlikely the 3G version of pioneer Nokia 3310.

Even though we have seen Nokia launching tremendous technologies as much as possible into their home grown Symbian smartphones. Last breadth with Nokia 808 PureView and alike before joining Microsoft and introduced Windows Phone OS to their hardware. Then completely getting taken over by the software giant.

After winding up with Microsoft, Nokia planned to give a new life to the most famous mobile brand yet by introducing to its global fan base with the platform which they always wanted – Android. HMD – now the new home for Nokia phones, introduced trio of the Android smartphones in lower and mid-range category earlier this year – Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6. Even though the upper model, Nokia 6 gained huge attraction globally, people still wanted to see some flagship device under the brand name “Nokia”. Today is the day when people are expecting the first flagship from the Finnish phone maker, Nokia 8.

Nokia 8 – The Flagship

What’s most authentic, is the Nokia 8 which is going to be the first flagship phone with Android platform. It’s currently supposed to carry a 5.3″ display with Quad-HD resolution of 2160×1440. Nokia 8 will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 system-on-chip.

On the memory side, Nokia 8 is expected to launch in a 4GB and 6GB RAM models, respectively featuring 64GB and 128GB internal storage respectively. The phone will sure run Android 7.1.1 Nougat, as that’s the starting software of Nokia smartphone already in the market.

Nokia 8 is expected to sport dual-camera configuration on the back. The rear camera is 13-megapixel, both with Carl Zeiss optics on top. On the front it’s also rumored as a 13MP autofocus camera.

Nokia 2 – The Ultra Low-End

In addition to the flagship Nokia 8, speculations suggest that HMD Global will also launch another low-end handset. Probably ultra entry-level phone will be featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 processor and could have 4.5″ display with 720p HD resolution. Called as Nokia 2, the phone may accompany the flagship today during the launch event in London.

Nokia 3310 – 3G Variant

After appearing in a listing from an online retailer, Nokia 3310 took the rumors mill once again to be shipped in a 3G variant. Even though HMD has stated the listing to be erroneous, people are still wondering if they could see a 3G variant of Nokia 3310.

Earlier we have Nokia 3310 with 2G connectivity which is far less usable in today’s age. So expecting a 3G model isn’t a bad idea. Some leaks also have shown a 3G model of 3310 on FCC website. So it’s just a few hours ahead till we know exactly what we have to see from Nokia – or HMD Global.
