Removing Mail for Exchange account from Nokia N8

Today I just found that after removing the Mail for Exchange account from my Nokia N8, didn’t actually deactivate the synchronization binding with the account. Hence the OviSync still didn’t let me sync contacts to the Ovi server. The fact is true that creating a Mail for Exchange account does require you to disable all other sync settings before you create an account so that the later synchronization jobs could be done via Mail for Exchange account itself. But the situation arrives when you want to remove the Mail for Exchange account from your phone. That would probably be considered to get back to other synchronization options in the phone e.g. OviSync. The problem was found to be there when removing the Mail for Exchange account didn’t deactivate the synchronization settings with the account and the other synchronization options were still not able to sync data due to the reason described.

I just wanted to let you guys know about this issue and to tell how you could fix it.

UPDATE: If you have already removed Mail for Exchange account and facing the issue, then this post will help you too.

Are you the one who should consider reading the post?

  1. Ok! If you have setup a Mail for Exchange account on your Nokia N8 and are willing to remove it, then you should read it carefully to perform removal of a Mail for Exchange in a proper way so that you won’t loose accessibility to other synchronization options e.g. Ovi Sync.
  2. If you have already removed the Mail for Exchange account from your Nokia N8 and facing the same issue, then you should create a Mail for Exchange account once again just as you did before. And now properly follow the steps below to deactivate the sync settings and remove the account.

What you have to take care of is just to deactivate the synchronization settings first within the Mail for Exchange account before you remove the account from your phone. How would you do that? is listed with screenshots below in order. After removing the Mail for Exchange account you would be able to see and change the sync options in Ovi Sync as shown in the screenshots.

Choose the Mail for Exchange account modify sync settings as shown in order

Settings > Personal Inform. Manag. > Applications

Choose calendar, contacts, notes one by one from the Applications to turn off the synchronization.

Turning off Calendar Synchronization.

Choose “Sync Calendar Entries” > Set “Sync Calendar” to “No” and go back to Applications page.

Turning off Contacts Synchronization.

Choose “Sync Contact” > Set “Sync Contacts” to “No” and go back to Applications page.

Turning off Notes Synchronization.

Choose “Sync to-do notes” > Set “Sync to-do notes” to “No” and go back to Applications page.

Synchronization settings now have been deactivated

you are good to remove your Mail for Exchange account. Go back to your Mail application and delete the Mail for Exchange mailbox as shown below.

All is done.

Now if you continue to set Ovi Sync you can notice that it will not prompt for any conflict with the Mail for Exchange sync.
