Tutorial: Customize your Google+ About Page

Like Facebook  Profile Page customization, you can also customize your Google+ About page. This is actually not the landing page of your Google+ Profile page. Someone needs to click About tab in the tabs on your Profile. But who knows what Google is doing back there. I believe there will be many changes regarding layouts on Google+ in coming days. As well still it’s in limited field trial. For now check out how can you customize your About page in Google+.

Check out the gallery how this tip can customize your About page with your custom images.

What do you need?

  1. Of course a Google+ account.
  2. Photoshop – the image editing software- and a bit know-how with such a tool.
  3. An image with at least 800 pixels in width and 220 pixels in height.

How to do?

  1. Download the PSD file
  2. Open the file in Photoshop CS5 (I can’t provide an earlier version file. See if I could do later.)
  3. From your Toolbar panel, select Slice Tool as illustrated below
  4. After selecting the Slice Tool, the slices should be shown up on the image. See below.
  5. You don’t need to do any thing with this template PSD file, and do not edit or move the top layer. Just find an image in your computer which you want to customize with this template. Copy the image in the template, You can add the image in any layer but under the top layer. An example image has been added already in the PSD file. See the following screenshot
  6. Now adjust the image while the top layer is on your image. You should see the blocks from your image under the top layer.

  7. Now you have to save the image blocks which have already been sliced in the template. To save the images follow as
    File > Save for Web & Devices – OR – Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S
  8. In the “Save for Web & Devices” dialog, select Slice Tool from the top-left tools and select the sliced boxes shown in the preview.
You will need to select boxes with numbers 03, 06, 08, 10, 12, 14, which actually are showing the images you need in result.
To select multiple sliced boxes, use the Shift Key. Now click “Save”.

  9. Select the destination where to save images. Make sure you select “Images Only” and “Selected Slices” in Format and Slices fields respectively. Give a File name – the file name will be used as prefix to all the files saved. And click “Save”

That’s it. The Photoshop part has been done. Now you should have the selected images in the folder specified. If you’ve done exactly the way explained above then you should have following images in the folder you specified in Step-9

Another folder named “Images” will be created by Photoshop automatically inside the folder you selected as destination and all the images will be stored in “YOUR_SELECTED_FOLDER\Images\”

  • g_03.jpg – (200×200 – will be used as your profile photo)
