OK! it’s long now waiting for Nokia to fix Push Email on Nokia N8 with supported services e.g. Ovi Mail, Yahoo, Windows Live and Gmail.
On a few blogs it’s said that the push email works flawlessly on Nokia N8 with the said configuration to set on Nokia N8. By mentioning about the “Soonest” option in settings, most of the people will have an idea what I am talking about. It is what’s mostly advised to set as “soonest” by the people on Nokia Blog or any other blogs which are happy with these settings and having a working Push Email with these settings.
Currently you will have two free services to configure with your Mail for Exchange client in Nokia N8
1- Windows Live Mail
2- Google Mail/Google Apps Email
There is no big difference in device configuration for these accounts but only a Mail for Exchange server is different.
For your ease I am showing some screenshots with step by step description.
Screen 1– Open Email client in your Nokia N8 and select “Mail for Exchange” from the services.
Screen 2- Enter the email address and password for your mail account. e.g.
And tap “Next”
Screen 3– Email client will try to connect to the service relevant to the email address you provided. If you are configuring a Google Mail account with @gmail.com, you might see a certificate warning which is issued by the Google Mail server. You will need to accept the certificate to proceed on. You can also accept permanently to store the certificate and will not ask you for the same on every connection.
Important! you might be redirected to back on Screen 2 after the Screen 3 process completes. Don’t panic and just tap “Next” once again on the Screen 2. The same Screen 3 will appear again and wait for it to complete. You will not be asked for the certificate again if you’ve chosen accept permanently previously.
Screen 4– Mail for Exchange server must be provided on this screen. As mentioned earlier you will need to enter:
Screen 5– You will be prompted with an important notice saying that it’s not recommended to use any other sync application while using Mail for Exchange.
It’s really an important advice to follow if you don’t want to mess up your contacts or any other data e.g. calendar entries and notes. But you can ignore this notice if you are going to use only Email service with this Mail for Exchange account. Like here I am just configuring an Email account and will not enable sync for Contacts or any other data service as I use Ovi Sync for my contacts and calendar entries and I am good with them.
Screen 6– The screen where you will choose which data you want to sync with Mail for Exchange account. Or just leave them unchecked and tap “Next”
Screen 7– You Mail for Exchange will be ready, the main screen will be shown up and the emails will be loaded.
You must check the configuration and verify if they are fine according to your need. On the Screen 7 with the emails list, tap on “Options”.
Screen 8, 9 – Tapping “Options” in Screen 7 will bring a menu as shown in Screen 8. Choosing “Settings” will take you to the Screen 9. Choose mailbox named “Mail for Exchange” which you just created now. And then Choose “When to sync”
Screen 10 – Next will be the screen 10 above. Make sure you change the values according to your need. Following options are critical about real time email sync. Thanks to N8ws.
That’s all. Check if this makes you happy, give your feedbacks.

RT @techprolonged: PUSH Email on Nokia N8 with Mail for Exchange - http://techprolonged.com/index.php/2011/...
do you know the mfe settings for yahoo mail? TIA
Very good instructions, managed to set up myself before i got any assistance from IT
I have a nokia e7, i followed your instructions for N8 and i could setup my gmail account, but i want to add my yahoo accounts too, but when adding a new mailbox there is a message:Maximum number of mailboxes defined. delete an existing mailbox and try again". i just have one email, i think it is because it tries to add a new Mail for Exchange account. what should i do?
there is nothing except Mail for Exchange in my mail. can i remove it?
thank you
Mail for Exchange in Symbian supports only one email account at a time. you need to delete that to add an other.
If you want to manage more email accounts with Mail for Exchange you can do as following.
* Decide a primary email account that you will configure on Mail for Exchange
* If you want to add any other email account, you can go to your account for that email and setup a FORWARD option to forward incoming emails to your primary email address. The emails forwarded to your primary email address will be synced to your Mail for Exchange.
------------
And the other email services in your mail client will only be listed if the SIM card is inserted and the phone is not in Off-Line mode.
If I want to add a Gmail account, is better to use Mail for Exchange or Gmail (see Screen 1)?
What is the difference? Thanks.
1- Mail for Exchange currently is quicker. You will receive an email on your device when actually it arrives in your mailbox.
2- Setting with Gmail may result a delay for a few seconds or even a minute or two.
3- Mail for Exchange will consume more battery.
Choose what suites you..
