Carla & Donna to follow the Symbian line-up: Come after Symbian Belle

Symbian Belle has still not started rolling out to the existing Symbian devices even though a promise was there that it will be in Q4 2011. But recently Nokia has published on their web portal to inform about the coming soon Symbian Belle. All that is apart but new Symbian names have started to appear. Carla & Donna are two new Symbian OS releases which are being supposed to come later after Symbian Belle

Symbian Latino has published the blurry image of some official slide shown at Nokia Developers Day held in Mexico. It’s supposed that the slide is being shown to inform about the continuous promised work on Symbian where two future Symbian releases were listed to come later than Symbian Belle which are Symbian Carla and Symbian Donna. Hence no specific dates were disclosed.

Symbian Carla

  • 8.0 Browser
  • Dolby soundround
  • NFC
  • Best Widgets

Symbian Donna

  • Exclusive Dual core equipment

What these OS releases mean to the existing Symbian devices?

Well it’s not a surprise that that not all existing devices are served with every latest OS because there are many things involved between hardware and the software relying on it. So you have to forget to have Symbian Donna on your existing Symbian devices as for yet this OS is supposed to be run only on the devices with Dual Core processors and according hardware.

Symbian Carla on the other hand (to come before Donna) is set for the late 2012 or early 2013, is supposed come with better web browser (showing version 8 of the browser) and a few other features and improvements. Also 1GHz processor is supposed to be with Symbian Carla, which also may not be the suitable update for existing Symbian^3 or Anna e.g. N8, E7, E6 or X7 as they all are running on the lowest hardware in the line-up.

However like Symbian Belle has been planned and is yet to come for these existing devices. The delay is considered to be the reason of making it fully optimized on the devices with lower RAM e.g. N8, E7 etc. There are still chances that Symbian Carla might also be optimized to run on these Symbian*3 devices, we doubt though.

Delayed Symbian Belle update for Symbian^3 devices:

It’s also suspected that the Symbian Belle roll-out for original Symbian^3 devices e.g. Nokia N8, E7, C7 and C6-01 will be delayed until Q1 2012, as it’s already the mid of Q4 2011 when Nokia is still planning to roll-out Symbian Belle only for Nokia X7, E6 and 500.
