Nokia Car Mode [Free] and Nokia Car Mode with MirrorLink [Paid], What’s the difference?

Nokia Car Mode with and without MirrorLink support is now available at Nokia Store

Nokia Car Mode, that runs within your smartphone to provide easy access and simplified user interface to the most relevant applications for in-car use. The simplified user interface and well designed interaction creates less distraction for the driver than traditional smartphone user interface.

Nokia Car Mode was announced a few months back and was hugely anticipated by many analysts as for being one of the most useful applications to use while you are driving.

Well taking not too longer, Nokia Car Mode is now available at Nokia Store. There are two versions of the Nokia Car Mode available, depending on the user preferences and availability of MirrorLink enabled car infotainment system on the region. The version of the Nokia Car Mode which includes the MirrorLink and could require the user to update the phone software,

Available applications in Nokia Car Mode

Nokia Drive or Navigation is the first and main feature your smartphone that you mostly use while driving a car. Nokia Car Mode gives access to in-built Nokia Drive drive application with a different user interface that helps while you drive and sends the output visuals to your car’s infotainment system (the supported head unit). In addition to the Nokia Drive or Navigational features and applications, Nokia Car Mode gives access to mostly used features and applications of the smartphone that are no harm while driving. These features are divided into 3 sections namely following.

• Call: Call interface provides access to your recent calls, contacts and dialer.
• Drive: Nokia Drive of course provides access to the fully featured free navigation already available in your Nokia devices.
• Music: Well one of the mostly used features in the car is Music. Nokia Car Mode provides an interface to your Music library as well as FM Radio.

Availability or Compatibility

Currently Nokia Car Mode is available only for Belle OS powered devices e.g. Nokia 603, Nokia 700 or Nokia 701.

Please Note: If you are running with leaked Belle OS on the devices like Nokia N8, C7, E7, E6 or C6-01 which is scheduled to be updated with official Belle sooner or later in February 2012, then you will not see Nokia Car Mode officially in Nokia Store App in your device until it’s officially released. Well a good thing is that you can still get familiar with a fully working application in your mobile which is not supported by MirrorLink and will not work with your car’s head unit. The application works fully within your mobile phone.
