[How to – Guide] Free SMS Chat Gmail to Mobilink

Mobilink Pakistan and Google Pakistan have recently partnered to bring free SMS chat from Gmail to the Mobilink subscriber. There is however much detail, to be understood with, regarding the policies of the service from both companies whether it’s cost or limits. But using the service is rather as simpler as choosing mobile number and start chatting with that.

1- Simply log in to your Gmail account on your computer and look for "Chat and SMS" box on the left pane.
2- Enter the mobile number (Mobilink only). And click "Send SMS"

If you have that number already stored in your Google Contacts, it will be populated automatically by the contact name.

If you are sending an SMS to a new number that is not in your Google Contacts list, you will be prompted with a dialog as shown below to provide a contact name to be stored for later use. Just enter a name and click “Save”

3- Once you have clicked "Send SMS" and/or "Save" button above, a chat session will be started and a popup will be appeared on bottom-right corner of the same page.

That’s it. You can start sending text messages to the chosen contact/number. You will not be charged any fee as this part of the service is free for Gmail users. Only thing you should take care of is the SMS credit.

Once you have started a chat session with a mobile user, that mobile user will have an option to reply back.

Note for Mobile Users:

  • You can not start a chat session with a Gmail user. Only a Gmail user can start a chat session from a supported Web browser.
  • Replying back to the SMS (which you receive from Gmail) will cost you Rs. 1+Tax for each SMS you send. Receiving is free.
  • For more instructions and detail read here.

Note for Gmail Users:

  • Initially, you’re granted a credit of 50 messages.
  • Every time you send a message, your credit decreases by 1.
  • Every time you receive an SMS message in Chat (for example when a phone user replies to one of your messages) your credit increases by 5, up to a maximum of 50.
  • If you are running out of credit, you can start chatting with your own Mobilink Number and replying back from your phone. That’s how you buy credit. In effect, you will be buying up to 5 credits for Rs. 1+Tax. (That’s the cost of an SMS sent from a mobile phone to Gmail)
