It’s not a new thing at all for a mobile OS to bring a BitTorrent client to run on it, though currently we are talking about an official uTorrent client that is being supposed to come on Android. A team of developers is working on a native BitTorrent client “uTorrent” for Android smartphones and tablets.
uTorrent of course is the most used BitTorrent client on a PC or Mac with 140 million active users. Reaching to mobile users will surely increase the strength of the client and will also be a useful tool for the users to do on their smartphones what they needed their computers for.
The company is avoiding to share any details about the Android version of uTorrent but they hinted that the basic functions, which are currently available in Windows and Mac versions, will be available on Android app.
“Like any software company, we know a mobile experience is really important to our users,” BitTorrent inc. told Torrent Freak. The company also added that they don’t have a planned release date for the Android app.
“At this point, we don’t yet have an ETA”
A notable point is that uTorrent client was first developed for iOS and tried to get through App Store when rejected unfortunately (but expectedly) as Apple never seemed to pass a BitTorrent client or alike apps and make them available over the App Store. So there is no hope for such a client to be available officially at App Store but Jailbreak was and still is the option on iOS devices for all those apps such as the one we are talking about.
