Review: Wireless Charging Shell for Nokia Lumia 820 [CC-3041]

It could be a little annoying for someones who didn’t know that how does Nokia Lumia 820 support wireless charging. To be clear, only Nokia Lumia 920 has the built-in support and is fully prepared for wireless charging. Other two Lumia smartphones which feature wireless charging are the Lumia 820 and Lumia 720. But these both devices do not come out of the box fully prepared for wireless charging. Nokia has introduced separate accessory covers and shells of different colors for Lumia 820 and Lumia 720 that make the device wireless chargeable in the same way as Lumia 920 does. Wireless chargers are the same for all.

The Wireless Charging Shell comes in the regular Nokia Accessory pack, the transparent plastic packet with the blue head and sides with accessory title and other information. Only the shell and a user guide is inside the packet.

The back cover which is supplied with Nokia Lumia 820 is NFC capable, hence the separate Wireless Charging Shell for Lumia 820 CC-3041 also supports the NFC connectivity to preserve the built-in feature of the device intact if the user upgrades to the wireless charging shell.

The difference in both covers can easily be identified from inside. The red one on the right hand was supplied with Lumia 820 which has only one connection terminal on the top of camera outlet. That’s for the on-board NFC connectivity. While on the left hand the white one has another connection terminal on the bottom of wireless charging panel that connects to the device to make it ready for wireless charging.

Have a little closer look at the bottom.

All other features are similar to the supplied cover. Side buttons and keys, the outlets on top, bottom and back. For instance the power key, volume rocker, the camera shutter key on the side. The speaker terminal and Micro USB connector on the bottom and headphone jack on top.

There is of course no flaw that can be spotted to tell if it’s not built-in or has been purchased separately. The thing to note is that the Wireless Charging Shell has a soft matte finish while the supplied one is plain shiny. This white-matte finished cover will absolutely get dirty sooner as well as other colors too. I really think it must have been in same plain and shiny finish as the supplied one is.

Of course last thing is to make mind for buying it. So it’s just simple. As we told in previous Wireless Charging Pillow DT-901 review that if you own a compatible device, this will be a good choice to go for. But still you will need to buy another thing, that is the Wireless Charging accessory (e.g. DT-900 or DT-901).

The Wireless Charging Shell for Lumia 820 is now available in Pakistan and may cost between Rs. 2200/- and Rs. 2600/- Available colors are black, cyan, yellow, red and white.
