Nokia X and Nokia X+ go official – First Nokia Android devices built on AOSP

Today in Barcelona Spain, at the MWC 2014 press-event, the long rumoured Nokia Android phones have been announced officially. Nokia X and Nokia X+ are now the first ever Nokia Android devices. Both are the low-end phones covering budget market with 4″ display of course with signature Nokia outfit and design. Nokia X+ will be bundled with better hardware and expandable memory via micro SD card.

Both devices are built on AOSP with purely Nokia’s distinct user interface similar to what we have seen on Windows Phone 8 OS. As already known, the Nokia X and Nokia X+ won’t run any of the Google services but the Finnish manufacturer will provide access to its own services including store, maps and navigation. “Nokia X takes people to Microsoft’s cloud, not Google’s.” – that’s what Elop said at the event.

New Nokia Store with Android apps, Nokia HERE Maps,  Microsoft OneDrive and Skype are few of many out there to replace Google services that included Google Play Store with Google Maps and so.  What makes it rather different is the developers will need just to publish their apps on Nokia Store to be downloaded on Nokia X and Nokia X+ devices. Elop has mentioned that the process is not more than a simple task but for the the easiness of end user, they will be able to sideload Android apps on to their Nokia X and Nokia X+ devices from the internal storage and micro SD Card, install via other stores like Yandex.

Nokia X and Nokia X+ will cost – 89 Euro and 99 Euros respectively before taxes and will be immediately in Q2.
