Nokia’s Android line up is bound to end, you know it well. But Microsoft Devices want the consumers who have bought Nokia X, Nokia X+ or Nokia XL for some trust on the “Nokia” brand, to have some new bits and bytes in new software update. The new software update has already been started rolling out today.
The software update brings some improvements from the Nokia X2 to the first Android line up of Nokia X, X+ and XL which include improved App Switcher and in-built Microsoft Services (Outlook.com, OneDrive and OneNote)
With the new software update an improved App Switcher is included to switch apps that are running in background.
Until now in recent software user interface on Nokia X, X+ or XL devices which runs Nokia X Platform 1.x and are not supposed to be updated with the Nokia X Platform version 2, there was not a dedicated option to switch between apps running in background but a recent activity screen where all activities are listed and could be switched between and so the apps.
Since there is only a single interaction key on Nokia X, X+ and XL under the screen which already is multi-function, hence to support a new dedicated App Switcher, the new drop-down menu is designed. You will need to swipe-down from the top of the screen and tap on the app switcher icon. You can then select the app to switch to or tap on the “X” icon to terminate it from the running tasks.
Microsoft services will be pre-included in the software update which include Outlook.com, OneDrive and OneNote. Outlook.com includes support for multiple Outlook accounts, with push notifications and calendar/contact syncing. While with OneNote Mobile you have instant access to your Microsoft OneNote 2010 notebooks stored on your OneDrive account and you can also create jottings right from your Nokia X and sync up to 500 of your notes.
Improved Nokia Store
The improved Nokia Store integrates other third-party app stores, which means that you can search and explore apps or other content under one roof. Home screen Spotlight widget for app discovery is included in Store and one-click downloads for faster access to apps.
Availability
The new software update has started rolling out today and will arrive at your Nokia X, Nokia X+ and Nokia XL via over-the-air (OTA). A push notification will be popup up on your Nokia X device automatically or you can manually check by navigating to settings > About phone > System updates > Check now.
