After staying in rumors for quite a good time, Samsung Galaxy S6 has been officially announced with companion variant as Galaxy S6 Edge at this year’s Mobile World Congress.
Apparently, the new Galaxy S6 is quite different when compared to older Galaxy S devices. The one prominent factor is the the absence of fully plastic pack from a Galaxy S device. This year’s Galaxy S6 comes in glass panels on the back as well as on the front screen along with the metal frame on the sides. That’s the first every Galaxy S device with a unibody design. The glass body is made of Corning Gorilla Glass 4. There is no disclosure of the gimmick factors like water proof unlike the predecessor.
With the Octa-core power of two quad-core processors 2.1GHz and 1.5Ghz, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge come with 3GB DDR4 RAM. 5.1″ screen of quad HD resolution of 2560×1440 serves at the pixel density of 577ppi. It’s Super AMOLED dispaly on the screen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. Galaxy S6 Edge differs the design with the Dual edge glass on the screen’s both sides.
Both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are packed with the 16MP Rear Facing camera which offers face tracking AF, Auto Real-time HDR and F/1.9 lens. The main camera records 4K videos while on the front 5MP camera also capable of recording 1080p videos.
Both the Galaxy devices offer 32GB, 64GB and 128GB storage options, although this time it’s non-expandable with no micro SD card option as well as first-time unibody design of the Galaxy S devices there is no back cover which is used to be removable ever since. You can not remove the battery from the latest Galaxy S6 smartphone.
There comes another little and final difference, the Galaxy S6 is packed with the 2550 mAh battery capacity while the Galaxy S6 Edge features a little bigger 2600mAh battery. However both the devices are LTE Cat. 6 (300/50Mbps) along side there is WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4/5GHz), Bluetooth 4.1, A2DP, USB 2.0, NFC and IR Blaster. Sensors include Accelerometer, Light, Gyroscope, Proximity, Compass, Barometer, Fingerprint, Hall, HRM.
Coming towards Software side, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will come pre-loaded with Android 5 (Lollipop) along with the latest version of TouchWiz user interface with the Google’s Material Design. Galaxy S6 Edge will feature additional software enhancements for the Dual edge display. Interestingly, Samsung has chosen Microsoft Apps including OneDrive with 115GB for 2 years and OneNote. No built-in Dropbox this time.
