Nokia getting back to smartphones in 2016 – Says CEO

Rajeev Suri, CEO Nokia, has announced that the Finnish company indeed has intentions to return to smartphone market in 2016. Be noted that earlier, the CEO has denied such developments on behalf of the company.

If you remember the Nokia N1 tablet launched later last year post Microsoft acquisition, the strategy of the upcoming Nokia smartphone plans are just same. The smartphone will not be manufactured by Finns but the company will design and license the phones with the brand name “Nokia”.

As Nokia has handed its devices and services units to Microsoft and they produce the phones now, Nokia will be looking for suitable partners to do the job for manufacturing while they will simply design them, Rajeev Suri said in an interview to Reuters.

We will look for suitable partners.

Microsoft makes mobile phones. We would simply design them and then make the brand name available to license.”

We can suppose that Nokia’s upcoming smartphones will also run on Android as we are seeing the company’s plan to operate in coming years with having reference of the Nokia N1 tablet that was also went on the same licensing flow and manufactured by Foxconn, and also runs on Android.

We can again mention here the smartphone business by Microsoft which is completely on its own track having no relation with the Nokia anymore. We believe, as Nokia still has its brand recognition, the Finnish phone makers may rise in that market where they were the world’s no mobile brand for more than decades.

What do you think about all this plan of Nokia coming back in the smartphone market? Do tell us in the comments below.
