Following the recent news of 250 MP image sensor from Canon, the company has also revealed that it’s developing an actual EOS DSLR camera with 120 megapixels sensor and an 8K Cinema EOS System for professionals.

While the images in this article are only provided as an illustrative purpose from Canon, but of course the final product will be just similar being an SLR. The sensor is APS-H type for EOS camera body with EF mount supporting 60 out of 96 EF lenses.

Canon actually had produced a 120-megapixels sensor back in 2010, a fact leading us to assume that we might be looking at a development of the actual camera body with that sensor – probably with enhanced technologies since then. The camera featuring this high resolution CMOS sensor will yield RAW files of around 232 megabytes which is 4 times the size of the 60.5MB RAW files of the Canon 5DS.

We still have no information about the official model name of the camera just like before as the sensor was not commercialized. Nor we have anything to tell when this camera will be reaching to its customers, if they have any plans.

Canon is also developing a Cinema EOS System 8K camera and professional-use 8K reference display to make production workflows smoother. In addition to 8K video content, the company will facilitate with 8K to 4K down-conversion and 4K cropping.

Once developed the Cinema EOS System 8K camera will have a Canon Super 35 mm-equivalent CMOS sensor with high-resolution of 8192 x 4320 pixels – that’s around 35 megapixels footage in the video that also at the frame rate of 60 fps.

Also in development, is the ultra-high-resolution 8K reference display that will achieve high brightness, high contrast or dynamic range. With a pixel density exceeding 300 PPI, it will be reaching the limit of human visibility.

The 8K camera will support 78 out of 96 EF lenses which also includes the 18 EF Cinema lenses in addition to 60 EF lenses.

The company hasn’t disclosed any plans to release the 8K EOS system, while it of course is to target the film-making and broadcasting market with its Cinema EOS products.
