(Left to Right) Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5, and Xperia Z5 Premium
Sony Mobile seems to be coming back with a handful of flagship devices – Xperia Z5 series. During IFA 2015 in Berlin, the company has unveiled its next-generation Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, and the world’s first smartphone with 4K display – Xperia Z5 Premium. All of them with pretty similar hardware inside.
The standard Xperia Z5 is the successor to Xperia Z3+ with the key change in camera department which features Sony’s brand new and large Exmor RS sensor of size 1/2.3″ designed for mobile devices. It’s 23 megapixels across the sensor. This camera shares its existence in all of the Z5 family.
In addition to the new camera, these three devices share almost everything including the Snapdragon 810 chipset with Octa core processor, 32GB of internal storage, network support of up to 4G/LTE, Two days of battery life as well as Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0. All of the three devices are waterproof and also feature the fingerprint sensor as well.
They differ at the prominent dimensions, display size and resolution and the RAM of course. The two, standard and premium versions come packed with 3GB of RAM while the compact version has 2GB of RAM. Xperia Z5 (standard) is slimmest of them at 7.3mm with the mid size of 146mm tall and 72mm wider. Xperia Z5 Compact and Xperia Z5 Premium are packed in 127x65x8.9mm and 154.4x76x7.8mm bodies respectively.
At the display end, Xperia Z5 Premium boasts with the insane pixel density of 806 PPI on a 4K display resolution (UHD 2160×3840) across a 5.5″ screen. The standard Xperia Z5 supports the now-a-days 1080p display resolution over a 5.2″ screen whereas the Compact one comes below at 4.6″ screen with only 720p resolution. However other display features still share amongst them.
According to the company’s description, the camera is capable of the fastest autofocus in a smartphone, a powerful blend of speed and accuracy to capture split-second moments with ease. It delivers a ground-breaking speed of just 0.03 seconds – which is faster than the blink of a human eye (average 0.1 – 0.4 s), so whether you’re jumping for the frisbee in the park, diving into the pool or catching air on the vert ramp, you’ll have the power to preserve spontaneous action in real-time.
The large 23MP sensor also help in low-light shots as well as the 5x clear image zoom provides minimum loss in quality. Low-light photography include all the situations when you capture photos at night or in darker surroundings. With something like this sensor you probably may have less noise and blur. Example situations are a sunrise or night skyline.
Xperia Z5 series include Sony’s SteadyShot with Intelligent Active Mode for video to be able to continuously capture moments with action smoothly, such as riding a bike or skateboard. The company claims, with Xperia Z5 series it will all be free from jolts or shudders.

Total waste of resources and a golden opportunity gone in vain. what purpose is this 4K display going to serve on a 5.5" display?? Seriously, it was such an easy task at this time of the year that Sony could have delivered their best market leading devices in ages. For example, they could have launched Z-5 Premium with Helio x-10 or even better X-10, and to cover up for the lack of SnapDragon 810 ( which by all means is the biggest tech failure of 2015 so far) they could have easily launched it with 64 GB base model and a huge 4000 mah battery for a 2K dsplay ( which is still unnecessary at this point but just to keep up with the competition). same goes for Xperia Z-5, with Heelio x-20 processor and again 64 gb base model with 3200-3300 mah battery and 1080p screens. And then Xperia Z-5 Compact with Snapdragon 808 and 3/32 GB and 720p display. Just imagine how much they could have achieved with these simple minor yet far more meaningful changes and then advertise it properly. But now, as we can see, Sony is going to have the same fate as HTC which makes me sad but no one can deny the fact that THEY DESERVE THIS DECLINE.
This thing doesn't seem to survive even up to a day with the specified battery on a display which is not even AMOLED. Giving it a 4k resolution panel? It won't work as far as I think. really want to see how will it perform.
