Popular image sharing platform Flickr has launched its new app featuring 360 degree panoramic photos to be viewed via Samsung Gear VR virtual reality headset.
The new Flickr app allows users to view a very large amount of 360 degree panoramic images (tens of thousands as stated), which already have been uploaded by community users, virtually by moving, turning and panning your head while wearing the Samsung Gear VR headset.
Once installed, on first start the Flickr app on Samsung Gear VR, a carousel of the top curated 360 degree photos from the platform is displayed. By selecting one you can view the image from 360 degrees perspective with the virtual reality headset. Flickr has stated that this app is just beginning hinting as there are more to come – may they be features.
FYI, Powered by Oculus (now owned by Facebook) the Samsung Gear VR works with Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 require a software update. The Gear VR is currently available for $99 in US but you can even view 360 degree panoramas in right on the Flickr website.
