Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Torture Test – Water Resistant, but Not Waterproof

Recent test results reveal that Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge are the best choices for people who can’t leave their phones behind before going into water with all their stuff on. However iPhone 6s and 6s Plus would be better option for people who have more chances of dropping their phones.

We recently saw an official demo of water resistance in Galaxy S7 edge, here a third party tests the phones by torturing them enough to show their guts.  There it shows that the Galaxy brothers can sustain in water better than latest iPhone devices but with partial damage.

In recently video SquareTrade Labs tested the new Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge against the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. In result, Samsung’s claims of the new Galaxy siblings being the most water-resistant phones are true at some extent. The 30 minute lab test of Galaxy S7 edge resulted in muffled and distorted audio but visual functionality remained intact where iPhone 6s and 6s plus suffered serious malfunction within 24 minutes.

Well, the recent rumours of iPhone 6s being water resistant or water proof have gone to dust after this test but the sturdiness of iPhone 6s wins over the newly launched Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge are built with a new water and dust resistant design, with an IP68 rating. According to Samsung, both the phones are capable to function normally when submerged in up to 5 feet of water for up to 30 minutes.

Companies use the term “water resistance” just to be secure from abuse in fail cases. So these new Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are not “water proof” exactly and may suffer damages within or beyond the limit of as quoted by the Korean smartphone maker.

The term “water resistance” is really need to be understood by customers. If you take it as “Water Proof” and a guaranteed safety from water all the time in any situation, then you need to be careful as this is not.
