Windows 10 Mobile rolls out – Everything you need to know

Not Insider Preview, Not Beta, It’s the Alpha Public Release

Finally, Microsoft breaks the chain of long wait and rolls-out the Windows 10 Mobile to smartphones. It’s been a few months since Windows 10 has been out on desktops while Windows 10 Mobile was only available via insider preview builds.

In a recent announcement from Windows Blog, the Windows 10 Mobile has now been started rolling-out to select devices running Windows Phone 8.1. It’s been a very long time since Microsoft first announced Windows 10 Mobile. After staying in development rotation along side insider feedbacks, the new mobile platform from Microsoft is now reaching consumers.

The devices which will get Windows 10 Mobile are listed below

Unfortunately, this update is still lacking the wider range of device as Microsoft is shipping this update to a very short listed device models for now. For instance, older Lumia smartphones with less than 1GB of RAM are not being facilitated with Windows 10 Mobile upgrade – as far as now. Eligible devices are listed below.

How to Upgrade

If you have an eligible device among the ones above, you can download the Advisor app from the Windows Store to check if Windows 10 Mobile upgrade is available for your device.

As the list above includes only a limited set of Windows Phone 8.1 devices, it also does not include some devices that are currently running Windows 10 Mobile via the Windows 10 Mobile Insider program.

For those who are not about to get Windows 10 Mobile upgrade, you must note that your devices may not suite the requirements Windows 10 Mobile will need to run smoothly. Here is what Microsoft has to say “As Windows 10 delivers significant new innovations, many older devices are not able to successfully upgrade without an impact on the customer experience.” as said Michael Fortin, CVP Windows and Devices Group Core Quality, in a blog post.

Fortin also added “Our goal is to only offer the Windows 10 upgrade to devices that we are confident can continue to deliver a good customer experience.”
