Announced at Intel Developer Forum 2016, Windows Holographic experience will be available for mainstream Windows 10 PCs starting next year.
Terry Myerson – Executive Vice President, Windows and Devices Group was at Intel Developer Forum along with Brian Krzanich – CEO Intel where both the partners discussed on mixed reality and announced to bring the virtual reality experience to mainstream PCs running Windows 10.
Both the partners, Intel and Microsoft have collaborated on a “specification for mixed reality ready PCs and head mounted displays (HMDs).”
The goal aims to enable hardware manufacturers build a wide range of devices for the mainstream consumer and business markets.
Both the companies are working with several partners on the spec today, and plan to publicly release first version of the spec at the Windows Hardware Engineering Community (WinHEC) conference in Shenzhen in December.
Microsoft has planned an update to Windows 10 for next year, which will enable Windows PCs to run the Windows Holographic shell and associated mixed reality and universal Windows applications.
The Windows Holographic shell enables an entirely new experience for multi-tasking in mixed reality, blending 2D and 3D apps at the same time, while supporting a broad range of 6 degrees of freedom devices.
