Microsoft Intents at New Category of Mobile devices in 2017

Having stayed quiet in the year 2016 with no smartphone announcement, Microsoft is being supposed to launch a brand new Windows powered flagship smartphone sometime next year. With a recent revelation, Microsoft is planning another iteration of their smartphone business as disclosed by Chris Capossela – CMO Microsoft when he was talking about the future of Windows Phone.

In an interview with Windows Weekly, Capossela suggested about the strategy that the company has intentions to create a brand new category of Mobile devices which can be followed by other manufacturers. It’s worth mentioning that previously, Satya Nadella – CEO Microsoft himself has disclosed about the company’s plans of making an ultimate mobile device and that the company is not stepping away from their own mobile devices.

On a side note, Microsoft has sold the Nokia’s legacy mobile business to FIH already and Nokia has licensed its brand to HMD for 10 years.

Chris didn’t disclose any details on that “New Category” of Windows Phone. However he did help reminding the Satya’s early plans of that ultimate mobile device and reiterated the CEO, that Microsoft wants to work together with other manufacturers for building new and great device along side the improvement over Windows 10 Mobile.

“For us when we want to do first-party hardware, when we want to do something like the Studio, or Book, or Pro, the number one goal we have is to essentially try and create a new category of device that hasn’t been done before and can expand the market for the Windows ecosystem. We want to do something that hasn’t been done before. We want to create a brand new category,” — Chris said in the interview.

Even though we haven’t more details on this development, with all the news gathered till now, you can expect Microsoft to bring something new in a mobile phone category like they have shown in the desktop computers recently with Microsoft Surface Studio.

You can watch the full length interview below (2 hours and 8 minutes) in which you can listen to all that of Microsoft has brought in the year 2016 and any new plans that the company has been thinking to bring in future.
