Nokia Phone Business Now Officially Will Be Taken Care of by HMD Global Oy

In a recent announcement, Nokia has confirmed the agreement with HMD that covers branding rights and intellectual property license previously announced in May. However HMD officially stated that it’s busy making Nokia Android smartphones.

With the latest development today, HMD Global enters the market to create a new generation of Nokia branded mobile phones through an exclusive 10-year brand licensing agreement. Effective immediately, HMD will own the the existing Nokia feature phone business that will cover the global market and scale.

HMD Global also announced that the company has also desired to become key player in global smartphone market. The strategic partnership is claimed to bring the very best Nokia mobile phone experience to global consumers.

Under the agreement, Nokia will receive royalty payments from HMD for sales every Nokia branded device, covering both brand and intellectual property rights. Nokia is not an investor or shareholder in HMD.

We’re busy working on Nokia smartphones running Android.

Entitled with “Inspired by ambition, made for everyone”, Nokia’s phone website is back and is currently under operations by HMD. HMD should now be considered as an active player in making feature phones and smartphones as the company has already listed some of the feature phones which were released before Microsoft sold the business to FIH Mobile (subsidiary of Foxconn) for $350 million.

More interesting thing to note is that HMD’s management and leadership include key players from both Nokia and Microsoft as well as HTC. The list includes former Co-Founder of HTC’s branded smartphone business – Florian Seich as President at HMD, the former VP at Microsoft Mobile Devices Sales Group EMEA and former various roles at Nokia, Arto Nummela is now CEO at HMD
