Twitter launches live 360-degree video streaming

Twitter has announced that it’s introducing live 360-degree video streaming on its micro-blogging platform so that the users can watch live, interactive 360 videos in their news feed having an inside look into those videos.

This update follows up the recently added native support of live video streaming on Twitter that allows users to broadcast and watch live videos right in their iOS or Android Twitter apps as well as on the web. Unlike that, live 360 videos are not available for all users to broadcast but only a select partners can go live in 360-degree videos via Periscope. However all the users can watch live 360 videos from yet-some interesting broadcasters and explore within.

“Starting today, you’ll be able to join live 360 videos on Periscope and Twitter from some incredible broadcasters — getting front-row access at exclusive events, traveling to places across the globe, and getting up close with well-known personalities.” – stated Periscope

While Twitter has just moved with this feature to counter Facebook with its aggressive live video updates in recent weeks, this specific feature is similarly available to select broadcasters at Facebook too. However you can apply to join in the waiting list to be notified as soon as the feature is available to you.

If you are not familiar, you must take in mind that recording 360-degree videos requires you to have a compatible VR camera, hence it’s alright with Twitter and Facebook to start with some select broadcasters who could seriously use the feature in a better way as not all of the general users would currently need this feature.

For the curious ones out there who are just ready to start using this feature to broadcast live 360 degree videos once available, you might want to checkout Insta360 camera as it’s natively integrated with Periscope or otherwise you can also go live with Periscope Producer using other VR cameras like Ricoh Theta S or the Orah 4i.
