Google introduces “Offline Search” to overcome spotty connections

After introducing offline access to a variety of its services, Google has now provided offline-access to Google Search via its Google App on Android OS.

Well it’s not anything like a science that would make you think how Google will eventually do that without the internet at all. The updated Google App now has the ability to queue your search terms in case if your device is offline and will notify you with the results later as soon as the device comes back online.

It doesn’t look anything like feature as why you will even need this. Actually it comes handy in some useful situations specially when you are on the go and got a few seconds to use the phone for searching about your destination. In case if the internet is not available in those few seconds, your search will be queued up and will return the results later right when internet is available. You don’t need to come back to phone and use it again and again for searching while on travel.

“Mobile networks can sometimes be inconsistent or spotty, which means that even if you have a connection when you start your search, it might fail before you get your results back.” – Google explains, and that’s actually true. “With this change, search results are saved as soon as they are retrieved, even if you lose connection afterwards or go into airplane mode.”

There is not limit on the list of search terms which can be queued at a time. Everything you search in offline-mode will be queued up into the list and destroys only after the results have been returned or you delete them manually. The queue can be managed via “manage searches” in Google app.

If you bother thinking about as it could keep using the phone’s resources which might end up with battery drainage. Google asks you to not worry about data or battery as “it won’t drain your battery, and by fetching streamlined search results pages, it minimally impacts data usage.”
