Huawei Honor 8 begins receiving Android 7 Nougat

Following the rollout to the unlocked Honor 8 devices in Japan earlier this week, it’s being reported that the Android 7.0 Nougat rollout has been broadened to other countries within a week.

Huawei debuted Android 7 with its EMUI 5 with Mate 9 later last year but Honor 8 was among the first devices which was bound to receive the software update after going through a beta phase. Huawei pushes the software update via over-the-air to the devices, hence the report comes from a user with the screenshot of the update notification.

The update package is as huge as 2.27GB in size which was only 1.97GB when rolled out to Japanese unlocked devices earlier. So expect big differences in the content and stuff the international version will be offering.

There is no official change log yet appeared online however according to Huawei Japan disclosed where the Android 7 brings some native features to the device, Huawei has optimized for system stability and improvements in the software.

Like many other OEM’s Huawei also pushes the software updates based on regions. If you have not seen an update on your Honor 8, you probably want to check now. As we reported earlier in our Honor 8 review that the unit we had skipped the most recent updates. Even the security patch was as old as July 2016 when most of the devices globally had received the updates until December 2016.
