Samsung’s Galaxy S smartphone, which has a history of announcement at Mobile World Congress, will no longer be launched during grand event. Credits to the Galaxy Note 7’s failure last year that require the Korean smartphone maker halt production of the phablet device.
Samsung announced at MWC that it will be live broadcasting the Galaxy Unpacked event on March 29th – on Galaxy website. However by not giving up on the event, Samsung launched its Galaxy Tab S3 and Galaxy Book in place of the next flagship S8 at the event – see after the break.
After announcing the Galaxy Tab S3 and Galaxy Book, Samsung revealed about the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event with a short video. The short clip also confirmed the date which has already been rumored.
Samsung’s announcements at MWC are below.
The Tab S3 carries a Super AMOLED display of 9.7 inch and runs Android 7 Nougat. It’s a Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor driving the tab with Adreno 530 GPU. Th tab has a 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage with an option to expand via microSD card up to 256GB.
Other features are 13MP autofocus rear camera and 5MP front-facing camera. It supports USB Type-C version 3.1 and features probably all the sensors including a fingerprint scanner.
Galaxy Book, on the other hand, is a Windows 10 tablet that comes in two models – a 10.6-inch TFT LCD and a 12-inch Super AMOLED screen. The former display supports 1920×1280 resolution while the latter features 2160×1440 resolution. The Galaxy Book is a 2-in-1 design that lets you work with it as tablet or as laptop with an added keyboard accessory attached – after all it’s a full fledged Windows 10 PC.
The 10.6″ model is powered by 7th Gen Intel Core m3 processor (dual-core 2.6GHz) and features a 4GB RAM with 64GB or 128GB storage. It’s an eMMC storage with expandable via microSD card up to 256GB. The tab has only a front-facing camera that is 5 megapixel fixed-focus.
The larger model (12″) is running on an Intel Core i5 processor (7th-gen dual-core 3.1GHz). You can choose from either a 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD storage or an 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD storage – microSD card is also supported with additional 256GB maximum. This model offers both a 13MP rear camera that is autofocus and a 5MP front-facing fixed-focus camera.
Samsung has not revealed about pricing and availability.
Update: Galaxy Tab S3 will be available from March 31st in UK. Expect Galaxy Book to release in April along side the Galaxy S8 flagship smartphone from Samsung. The Galaxy Book will cost £849 in UK as well.
