Galaxy S9 and S9+ Screen Sizes Revealed, may feature In-Cell Touch Solution

Parallel to the hype of upcoming Galaxy Note 8, there comes the rumor about next-year’s Galaxy S9 and its counterpart Galaxy S9+. Improving on the display features from the predecessor such as Infinity Display, Galaxy S9 is now reported to bring a whole new display technology as well as varied screen sizes.

Among the rumors of implementing and solving the puzzle of under-display fingerprint tech, Samsung is now reportedly working on its Y-OCTA displays, with in-cell touch solution for its next Galaxy S smartphones, namely Galaxy S9 an Galaxy S9+.

In addition, according to ET News, both the smartphones will have a little variation in their screen sizes. Galaxy S9 is reported to have a display size of 5.77 inches while the larger counterpart Galaxy S9+ will boast a 6.22-inch screen. Well this is not a big difference from the current Galaxy S8 and S8+, what makes it concerned as if Samsung will be using an in-cell touch display for next Galaxy S devices.

Reported to feature in Samsung’s flagship during the first-half of 2018, the Y-OCTA display will implement the touch functions right during the manufacturing process of the flexible OLED display. There will no separate part in the display for touch functionality. By integrating the touch features into the display itself, reduces the thickness of the overall display module – hence makes the manufacturers produce slimmer devices.

Technically, a film-based TSP (or Touch Screen Panel) won’t be needed with the Y-OCTA displays, it will not only make the device – thinner and lighter, but will also reduce production cost by 30%. You may expect Samsung to reduce retail prices of its smartphones as well and you may have more affordable Galaxy S9 next year – may be, if all this is true.

Believe it or not but Samsung, being the biggest manufacturer and supplier of the AMOLED displays to third parties, may have the resources to change anything they want in the displays to adopt newer technologies.
