iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus – Official with A11 Bionic Chip

Well, truly the iPhone X is the one that mostly would talk about but Apple’s iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are the key players among the recent announcements.

Even though the 8 and 8 Plus have similar looks as their predecessors, they indeed have much similar inside like the iPhone X – the 10th anniversary special edition iPhone.

In fact iPhone 8 and 8 Plus features something new in their design – the glass on the front and back, 7000 aluminium frame in between, the new A11 Bionic six-core chipset, new and improved cameras, louder stereo speakers and new durable glass.

Underneath the front glass, the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays have same resolution as the ones on predecessors but these comes in a completely new units. 3D Touch is still there, Cinema Wide Color Gamut and True Tone. The two phones are also water resistant as well like before.

Apple, as usual, brings a new chipset with its new iPhone lineup. This year Apple moves on with introducing more cores in its chip. From a quad-core CPU in last year’s A10 Fusion to a hexa-core CPU in A11 Bionic chip – that too with a first-ever Apple-designed graphics processing unit.

Apple’s new A11 Bionic chipset features two high-powered cores which are 25% faster than the ones in the A10 Fusion. Other four cores are power-efficient and are 70% faster than the two low-power cores in previous A10 Fusion. The chip carries the GPU which is very first one to be made by Apple itself. It comprises of 3 cores, promising 30% faster performance compared to the GPU inside the predecessor A10 Fusion.

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus retain the same 12MP resolution cameras but inside there are new image sensors as well as an improved ISP is doing a better job, Apple claims. The A11 Bionic chip works here too to enable faster focusing in low light conditions. Improves sharpness and dynamic range, and lower noise.

This trio of smartphones are now first to enable 4K video recording at 60fps and 1080p at whopping 240 frames per second – exactly like iPhone X. The main camera on the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus features 12MP resolution with f/1.8 aperture. However iPhone 8 Plus, having a dual-camera setup, features a secondary telephoto camera of 12MP resolution with f/2.8 lens aperture.

iPhone 8 Plus – Portrait Lighting • blurred background • lit face • dramatic shadows • spotlight • stage light

Apple introduces Portrait Lighting feature on iPhone 8 Plus’s telephoto camera. Just like the X, when taking a shot, the dual camera on the iPhone 8 Plus identifies the face and adjusts the facial tones and properly lit the face from preset of lighting – all in real time. These lighting effects can also be readjusted after you have taken the shot.

The glass back of iPhone 8 and 8 Plus allowed the support for Qi Wireless Charging and fast charging – you can get from flat to 50% in 30 minutes.
