Conclusion & Verdict

Overview

Huawei Mate 10 Review - Top Narrow Bezel

Huawei has justified with its flagship phone making it stand among the top of the line smartphones, even ahead of all at some points. Mate 10 is really an upgrade in every aspect from the previous version. I’d call the design as more iconic and attractive than others which are still following their old designs with minor changes. Battery is quite good and power efficient in the phone – thanks to the AI optimization.

Even though the Kirin 970 is running on the same cores as was the predecessor 960, it does the job with more power but even efficiently. The most prominent element of processor is the dedicated NPU that really makes things faster in the Mate 10. It’s one of the first devices running Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box with significant changes in EMUI user experience.

The two cameras on the back are also same at resolution as previous version but brighter lenses on top from Leica. But sad to have no water-proofing in Mate 10 as it’s IP53 which, frankly, is nothing. Mate 10 Pro is water resistant though with IP67 rating. Mate 10, however, has a splash-proof glass.

Another thing where consumers most probably would be confused at is the screen. It’s the first time ever when a Pro model of a smartphone with upgraded elements, has actually a lower display resolution. You must know that the Mate 10 standard model has higher QuadHD resolution of 1440p while the Mate 10 Pro has a 1080p display but at 18:9 aspect ratio. So you will have to take care about that when buying one of the two and don’t be mistaken.

Conclusion

There is no doubt that when you look at the Mate 10 the very first time, it attracts you. The first impression does count but it’s not really all that you need to look at. You have to look into it, to know what you are paying for.

Huawei Mate 10 Review

Mate 10 indeed has a better impression to fall for, it has brilliant all-glass body, it has powered up CPU along with the top lined GPU, improved and brighter Leica optics which bring some improved photographs out of the camera, then the the high resolution display is too crisp and sharp even on an IPS panel.

When you look at these features and price, it does stand among the most recent flagships like LG V30 and Galaxy Note 8. You sure will be giving up on some features and acquiring some others when choosing from these three smartphones or may be a few others. Where Note 8 is rather more expensive by over Rs. 30,000, LG V30 is not even available officially in Pakistan.

Galaxy Note 8 • Huawei Mate 9

Well if you consider the pricing factor more importantly, then you must keep in mind that the last year’s Mate 9, which has same CPU with same core-configuration (except the new NPU), a little lower GPU but same RAM and storage, is still available to buy for Rs. 20,000 less. You sure will lose some significant features in the camera including the brighter lens but the image sensors themselves are still same and have OIS too which produces pretty much equal photographs. EMUI 8 is also promised upgrade for Mate 9 as well. So you are the one to make the decision before Huawei makes it first to discontinue it.
