Honor V10 announced with 5.99-inch display, Kirin 970 CPU, Android Oreo, and more

Honor, Huawei’s sub-brand, keeps its tradition with launching high-end hardware with much affordable prices. The latest in the line-up Honor V10 has been announced in China recently. Global launch is to occur in coming weeks with no specific detail about which regions.

The Honor V10 has a lot from the recently launched Huawei Mate 10 Pro. With some downgrades, the Honor V10 also features thin bezels like any other flagship from any manufacturer. It features a “FullView” 5.99-inch IPS display with full HD+ resolution of 2160×1080 pixels at 18:9 aspect ratio.

The new V10 is also the same Kirin 970 processor that we have seen in the latest Huawei flagship Mate 10 and 10 Pro. It also runs Android 8 Oreo with EMUI 8 makeover. The phone may be available in either 4GB or 6GB of RAM with 64GB or 256GB of internal storage.

There are is a dual-camera setup of 16MP and 20MP on the back also with Huawei’s AI tech as featured with the Mate 10 Pro. On the front, there is a 13MP selfie camera. Fingerprint scanner is on the front below screen like standard Mate 10.  It’s powered by a 3,750 mAh battery that supports Huawei’s fast charging with SuperCharge.

Huawei’s Face ID, claimed to be better than Apple’s

Huawei claimed during the launch in China, that the Face ID feature implemented in Honor V10 is better than the one Apple has put into its latest iPhone.

Apple used the technology that is combined with variety of sensors, including camera, IR, and laser, to map the user’s face in three-dimensions – they called it “TrueDepth”. While Huawei disclosed that they are doing something similar in Honor V10 but for less. A VCSEL projector replaces the laser in that array of sensors in Huawei’s implementation. It also 3D maps the user’s face but uses “fringe projection” instead to do that.
