HMD Global, after having the authority of making Nokia branded smartphones, has fulfilled its promise to deliver faster software updates and monthly security patches to all of its devices. Thanks to their clean and pure Android OS without any skin on top of it.
The company has even given a life to the old Beta Labs of Nokia for registering customers who want to get their hands on early software releases. Previously the portal was supposed to only deliver beta versions of in-house apps from Nokia. With the re-opening of Beta Labs, HMD Global first started registering Nokia 5 customers for Android 8 Oreo beta update with a promise to deliver the same on Nokia 6 sooner.
After around a week now, the company has started rolling out Android O beta for Nokia 6 devices. Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer at HMD Global tweeted earlier today about the update.
Signing up for Android 8 beta is easy. So is installing the update on your phone. Updating to newer software version won’t destroy your phone data or apps but you are always advised to have a complete backup of your important stuff in the phone.
If you are a Nokia 6 user, you will need to head over to Beta Labs portal and register yourself, if haven’t already.
After completion above steps, the beta software will be pushed to your phone within next 12 hours. You can also go to Settings > About Phone > System Update to check for the update manually.
If you haven’t received the beta software update on your Nokia 6, then don’t worry as you are not alone. Nokia 6 has various models depending on the regions they were sold in. Those models run different software builds as well. The Beta Labs portal mentions which software builds are currently eligible to receive the beta software update.
The portal has also mentioned that you have to be running the latest general release on your phone before you could receive the Android O beta. The latest general release should be having a December security patch, according to Sarvikas.
So if you are having trouble with receiving Android 8 software beta on your Nokia 6, you may need to wait. You can always manually go to Settings > About Phone > System Update to check for updates. An official build will also be coming soon anyway. Let us know about your experience with the update if you already have it waiting for it.
