Government invites UBER to partner with Pakistani Banks for financing vehicles to drivers

While meeting with world’s tech companies at World Economic Forum in Davos, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi – the Prime Minister Pakistan invited Uber to partner with Pakistani banks and PMYP (Prime Minister’s Youth Program) to help drivers in financing vehicles for Uber.

PM Abbasi, in a meeting, talked to Mr. Dara Khowsroshahi, CEO of Uber Technologies Inc, at the World Economic Forum (WEF 2018) in Davos – the largest event where the governments meet tech giants seeking investments. He appreciated Uber for spearheading the model of a “sharing economy”.

Ms Anusha Rehman – Minister of State for Information Technology and Ali Jehangir Siddiqui – Special Assistant to the Prime Minister were also present during the meeting, along with other senior government officials.

Both the parties discussed about the avenues and opportunities regarding effective participation by Uber in Pakistan’s economy in a meaningful manner. Assuring about the market potential for the business, Prime Minister told Khowsroshahi that Uber can provide added value to the commuters.

If you aren’t familiar, Uber Technologies Inc. is a global ride hailing service provider. It’s currently operating in 633 cities globally. Launched in Pakistan in 2016, right now, Uber operational in 7 cities nationwide. The company is currently servicing 1.27 million riders while being a source of income to 63,000 drivers worldwide.
