HMD Global now acquires “PureView” brand for Nokia Android smartphones

HMD Global, the company that currently holds the license to make smartphones under the brand name – Nokia, has now acquired its sub-brand – PureView.

It was the year 2012 when Nokia brought the first 40-megapixel camera to the world in a smartphone dubbed – Nokia 808 PureView. Following that monster camera phone, Nokia was in partnership with Microsoft when they released another 40MP camera smartphone in year 2013 carrying the PureView brand – Nokia Lumia 1020, powered by Windows Phone operating system.

Both the companies, then, released a few further camera centric smartphones with the same brand – Nokia Lumia 920, 930, 1520, but all with a camera not more than 20MP. However with transferring its mobile business to Microsoft completely later, the Finnish mobile giant also transferred its relevant trademarks to Redmond based software giant. Microsoft, later, launched Lumia 950 and 950 XL with the PureView brand.

Now when the millennials Nokia fans finally have their beloved combination of Nokia-Android smartphones in markets, it’s now another excitement for them to having its peak-camera tech seeking in Android platform. According to EUPIO’s trademark listing, HMD acquired the brand name “PureView” on 23rd August, 2018.

HMD Global has already collaborated with Zeiss optics to feature its lenses in Nokia smartphones. The company also has adapted the Nokia Pro Camera user interface as the native interface of camera app in its Android smartphones.

Adding PureView camera centric brand name to its high-end smartphones won’t guarantee if HMD Global would be having any plans of bringing another monster camera system to its Android portfolio of smartphones. However you can wish for some more innovative tech coming from the Finnish phone makers under the Finnish brand name.
