Samsung launches the affordable 1TB SSD, it costs only $150

In more recent times, computer users have started choosing Solid State Drive (SSD) over the decades old hard disk drives (HDD). Most obvious reasons are that SSDs are faster and use way less power than the traditional HDD. Another important factor is that the SSDs do not make noise while functioning unlike hard disk drives. But the adoption of these drives remained at much slower rate due to being significantly expensive. However this barrier now seems to be broken with the launch of Samsung’s new range of SSDs.

The Korean chip maker has launched a $150 1TB SSD that will go on sale from December 16th. The new Samsung 860 QVO SSD uses quad-layer-cell (QLC) NAND for the first time. This tech is around for a while that allows manufacturers to add more capacity in smaller and affordable packages.

Existing SSDs from Samsung use 3-bit multi-level cell (MLC) that store three bits per cell. With the new 4-bit MLC the manufacturing is much cheaper. However it also turns out to be slower than what SSDs are widely known for.

Initially, Samsung will be offering the new 860 QVO in three options – 1TB, 2TB and 4TB respectively costing $150, $300, and $600. Just for comparison sake, if you didn’t know, Samsung launched a 860 4TB Pro SSD for $1900. Now that’s something that should amaze you.

Following are the detailed key features of all the three storage options of Samsung 860 QVO SSD.
