Vivo NEX 2 officially launched as Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition – Price, Specs, Availability

The Chinese smartphone maker, Vivo once again brought to you another innovative device. Now a true dual-display smartphone, kiling the notch and the front facing camera at all – Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition. But this time, it’s a premium flagship phone from the company.

Vivo has done really well with its innovations on par with any research based firms. It has indeed captured headlines this whole year for its innovative devices, and is closing the year with just another eye candy smartphone with “two screens”. The phone we have known by the name of Vivo NEX 2 more recently has been launched with the name “Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition.”

Continue below to know everything about the new Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition.

Display and Design

Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition is almost identical to its predecessor NEX. The front side is covered with the fully bezel-less 6.4-inch OLED display with no notch and no front facing camera at all. It has a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels across the board.

The phone doesn’t even have a mechanical pop-up camera. Instead it houses a triple camera setup on its back where the phone also features a second display with some large bezels. The top bezel is where the three cameras are settled in, while the bottom thicket chin displays the branding “NEX”.

The secondary rear-display isn’t small at all, it’s 5.5-inch OLED display with full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Hardware and Features

Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition equips with everything that a flagship does. The phone has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor paired with a whopping 10 GB of RAM. Internal storage, however, is limited to 128 GB with an option to expand via microSD card.

The phone will be running Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box with the company’s FunTouch 4.0 software skin on top.

With all that premium stuff, the NEX Dual Display Edition stays back with a moderate battery capacity of only 3500 mAh. However the phone supports 10V fast-charging with USB Type-C.

No Front Facing Camera

Yes, you read it right. The NEX Dual Display Edition is all about displays and kills the front-facing camera.

Well, do you really need a crappy little front camera when you can take selfies with a more healthy primary rear camera? Yes, that second display on the back of the new NEX is all yours. You will now be using that rear-camera with the rear-display to take selfies.

The NEX Dual Display Edition sports a 12-megapixel primary camera, along with a secondary 2-megapixel depth sensor. The third one is the TOF (time of flight) 3D mapping camera with a very large lens aperture of f/1.3 for facial unlock. Vivo claims its facial scanning system is “better than Apple’s.” That’s a huge claim to make, however Vivo has already done a great job job with its V11 and V11 Pro smartphones in that regard. In addition to precise facial authentication, the third camera can also map the face to create personalized beauty filters.

There’s also circular light ring around the cameras on the back. In addition to the use as filling-light for selfies, it can be used for notifications as well.
